Founding Engineer
Build the product end to end, from the retrieval layer that guarantees a verse is real to the page you are reading now.
Apply for this roleWe are small enough that the person who writes the retrieval layer also writes the onboarding flow and answers the support email that results. This role suits someone who is happy owning a problem from the data model to the typography, and who would rather ship a careful thing in three weeks than a clever thing in three days.
What you will do
Own significant parts of the product end to end: data model, API, interface, and the tests that keep them honest.
Extend the retrieval and citation layer that keeps Trinity quoting from a fixed text rather than writing Scripture from memory.
Design the evaluation harness we use to catch regressions in teaching quality, not just in latency.
Work directly with the content team on how a study path is authored, stored, and rendered.
Carry the pager for what you ship, and keep the incident count boring.
What we are looking for
Five or more years building production software, with real ownership of at least one system you kept running.
Strong TypeScript, and fluency with a modern React framework.
Experience with retrieval systems, search, or anything where correctness of the returned document matters.
Comfort working without a specification and writing the specification yourself.
A high standard for detail in the parts of the product a user actually touches.
Nice to have
You have worked at a company under twenty people and know what that costs.
Some familiarity with biblical languages, or the willingness to learn enough to be dangerous.
You have built evaluation tooling for language models before.
